Vollands — Pamela Hill

After her husband's bankruptcy and death, Anna Volland and her large family are glad to accept the hospitality offered by her uproarious Uncle Hubert, and eventually move into the old family home, Vollands. After Hubert's death, though, the house is ruled by the cold and businesslike eldest remaining son, James. The family fragments under James's stem hand, but the generations that follow cling, each with their own fervency, to the old house.
