A popular author in his time, Bernard Capes is less well-known today, though is best remembered for his speculative fiction. He left behind numerous stories in other genres, however, and 24 of these are collected here. There are mysteries (as in "The Poison Bottle" and "The Lost Notes"), rogues (in "An Apostolic Catspaw" and "A Gallows-Bird"), and humor ("A Cure for Consumption"). This is a great collection for the short story enthusiast, with several stories that are difficult to find today.
