Betty Trenka isn't exactly looking forward to retirement. She knows how to run an office better than men or women half her age. But she has no choice, and she takes her pension and retires to a small Connecticut home outside Hartford. Looking for a diversion from the boredom of her residential neighborhood and its suburban gossips, Betty takes a three-day temporary position at Zig-Zag, a small computer firm.
Boredom is a thing of the past when the highest-ranking female employee is murdered the day before Betty gets to work and she's got to pitch in and keep the office running. Not an easy task, she discovers, especially since no one trusts her and she's not too sure about any of her temporary colleagues either. A second murder really gets Betty going.
