If I were to ask you a simple question, “Why do you do what you do?” do you think you could give me a good answer? Most people would be quick to give a response. But if you really think about it, this one is a little harder to answer… well to answer honestly.
Perhaps I could add the question, “Why do you live where you live?” And then even perhaps ask, “Why do you work where you work?”
Mark finds out in this book that life really is about a series of paths and decisions whereby even one small change can alter our lives forever. Mark is overwhelmed to find out first-hand that most decisions we make require some sort of faith whether we believe it and totally agree or not. He learns, however, that we sometimes want to blame others, including God, for our decisions.
In this book, Mark is shown that it is only when we look deep within ourselves that we can begin to see what God has truly done in our lives already, even if we don't understand it. And, it is only by examining the paths we have taken that we can really see where we're at, much less what might lay ahead of us.
If I were to ask you, ‘How can a writer write?' what do you think your answer would be? How can the singer sing? Or even, how can a dancer or musician feel the music? How can an interior decorator picture something on a wall in their mind that is not already there?
We all have gifts; that is undeniable. And, I believe with all my heart that our gifts, no matter how large or small they seem, come from God. But, our problem lies in answering the age-old question, “What do we do with them?”
Everyone doubts their abilities and questions their gifts sometimes. From the truck driver to the dentist, the seamstress to the Sunday School teacher; yes, we all have gifts. The most important thing is to understand first where your passion lies, the decisions you make that affect you, and then believe that God loves you - NO MATTER WHAT! Oh, and did I mention that you should learn to ‘hang on' for a ride that only the best imaginations can endure?!
You can replace your worst doubts and fears with an abundance of joy no matter what your gifts are or where your passions lie… Your own life can change and you can begin with simply closing your eyes and imagine yourself on a park bench. You find yourself sitting right between Mark and… well… just turn the page and begin to read!
