The Legend of Resurrection Mary and Other Ghostly Tales from Archer Avenue
Archer Avenue in southwest suburban Chicago is one of the most notoriously haunted roads in the country. It is a place where visitors encounter cemeteries tucked inside the woods, lakes that seem to glow in the moonlight, and an old limestone church that looms above the surrounding landscape. In the darkness of night, one can easily imagine hearing the frantic hooves of a phantom black carriage barreling toward Archer Woods Cemetery, or see the glimmer of a young woman strolling along the roadside. Of course, this road is also home to one of the most famous ghost stories of all time: Resurrection Mary. In this short book, Illinois folklorist Michael Kleen explains the allure of Resurrection Mary and Archer Avenue in a way only he can.
