FIRST PRIZE: MURDER
It was an honor. Or so the residents of Henderson, California claimed. To be a judge for the annual Slugfest, a celebration of the lowly California slug, meant witnessing the slug weigh-ins and slug races and then having the honor of sampling an array of dishes--from soup to pizza--made of cooked slug.
Organized by the local town historian, this year's Slugfest, held on the banks of the Russian River, has been poisoned. One of the judges is dead, and Vejay Haskell, local meter reader and parttime sleuth, is sure that it's murder. Now Vejay must find a secret document, untangle a secret relationship, and produce the identity of a missing mystery lover. For her efforts, the lady can earn a dubious prize of her own: a date with a killer...
