It seems like centuries ago, although it was only two decades, that Semen, the last male chauvinist, died. How such uncaring, pushy, selfish men actually inhabited our earth is impossible to understand now that men and women have become equal in their abuse of each other. The fathers of today, sharing all the housework and childcare, and supporting women in every political, cultural, educational, and business endeavor, probably cannot recognize themselves in that ancient species, chauvinists. Perhaps some of you have seen the excellent exhibit on chauvinists put on earlier this year by the Natural History Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. Chauvinists died in the manner of dinosaurs, in a brief and perhaps dramatic fashion. It took thousands of years to develop chauvinists and only a decade to kill them off. They couldn't have been a very durable breed of men. The purpose of this book, however, is not to provide an anthropological discourse on the decline of chauvinists, but rather to chronicle the death of the last chauvinist, Semen.
