Alarm bells go off in Detective Lexi Granger's head when a gun linked to a cold case disappears and a veteran officer turns a blind eye to the fact that the weapon has gone missing. Lexi pursues the case anyway, and then receives a death threat.

To save herself, she is forced to turn to the one man she knows she can trust: Acting Commander Chaz Trahan, her ex-husband. She still loves him but had to set that love aside in order to save her career when he went off the deep end while working a case.

Chaz is still in love with Lexi as well, but won't admit it to anyone but himself. He agrees to help her so he can exorcise his own demons concerning the missing gun -- the only link to the man who killed his parents twenty years earlier.

Only he's not sure the two of them can solve the crime before the same murderer finds Lexi... and somehow, he must keep her safe. He simply cannot lose the love of his life a second time.
