Inspector Frank Mortimer wanted to be a detective, although it seemed he was destined to remain in the uniform branch. When he decided to visit a couple he and his wife had met in Torremolinos, he found himself involved in a crime which enabled him to exercise his untested talents. Mortimer found them murdered in their bed, their house burgled; other couples who had been on the same holiday had also been expertly burgled and Mortimer suspected someone at the airport must be involved.
