Listre, North Carolina, is jumping. The Sears twins, Ted and Ned (or is it Ned and Ted?), who run a Baptist college, have opened Nutrition House for overweight Christians. Meanwhile, their Project Promise is busy matching the educationally disadvantaged with wayward youth who want to share their talents.
Enter Wesley Benficld, a loutish car thief whose crooked teeth and matching soul were straightened by Mattie Rigsbee --until Wesley stands face-to-grille with an unlocked white Continental. He ends up in Project Promise, where he teaches bricklaying to a boy from Special Ed., writes songs for his Baptist band, takes up preaching (of all things), while keeping a lustful eye on a wide, iron-pumping girl over there at the Nutrition House. The Lord only knows where Wesley will go from here.
