This is the story of an American family in the War of 1812.
The Satterfield business empire embroils the family in the political disputes that lead to another war with England. Jason builds a speedy blockade-runner; a British picket ship impresses Toddy and imprisons him in Halifax. Jason and John Jr. pressure a disinterested Jefferson and Madison. Buster's opposition draws him deep into politics, and he runs for Congress. The English squadrons become more aggressive, impressing American sailors and blockading American ports. When the Americans protest and rebuild their armed forces, the English decide to teach the Americans a lesson. Buster and Toddy watch as the English sack and burn Washington.
