Following the break-up of her engagement, Carla heads for Ravensford in Yorkshire, where she spent many childhood holidays. The local hotel is now a hostel for retired show people and the owner's son, Doctor David Ross, offers her the job of cook. As Carla's love for David grows, she learns that he has a wife in America.
