Celebrating Summer — Rita T. Kohn

Early childhood concepts, such as counting, quantity, sequence, and spatial relationships are highlighted in each of these four seasonal picture books. Each story takes place in a woodland region along the Great Lakes of North America, the traditional homeland for more than twenty Native American nations. At the same time, children of all cultures can learn about Native American traditions, food, clothing, games, and storytelling.By counting how many dancers participate in the building of the Powwow arbor, children strengthen their counting skills.
