Oh yeah, it's summer V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!
Wally Hatford dreams of long, lazy days far away from school and even farther away from Caroline Malloy. Dream on, Wally. As the best speller among the Hatford boys, Wally gets roped into helping his brothers with a summer newspaper project that will earn the twins school credit. But does Wally get any credit? No way.
But maybe, just maybe, he will. When Wally hears scratching noises coming from the cellar of Oldakers' Bookstore, Mr. Oldaker trusts him to keep a secret that could turn into a scoop for the boys' newspaper. Now Wally worries that the secret may be too scary to keep to himself.
As if that wasn't hard enough, the Malloy girls have horned in on the newspaper project. If there's one person Wally won't spill his secret to, it's nutty Caroline Malloy, the future actress. Some girls work on their tans, but Caroline is working on her aura so she'll be noticed as a special person. She's special, all right, Wally thinks: she's nuts!
With three issues to fill, the Hatford boys and the Malloy girls are busy writing and putting the Hatford Herald together. Wally's hoping he'll have his super scoop by the final edition, even though he's not sure what it is.
Extra! Extra! Read all about the Hatford boys and the Malloy girls, who turn the lazy, hazy days of summer into a hot-off-the-presses cool time! Sometimes, girls rule; but this time, no mistake: BOYS ROCK!
