(Short Story: Urban Fantasy) Spiritually and emotionally, Beatrice died years ago. After the death of her one and only child, she pushed her life away with both hands. She refused to embrace any of it: not her husband, not her career, not the possibility of having another child.
Now, thanks to a medical mistake, she has contracted acute ambulatory death. The condition has rendered her a walking corpse. She had no heartbeat. She does not breathe. She has begun to bloat. The inevitable and irreversible process of rot, of her physical dissolution, has set in. No cure exists.
Thus confronted by her mortality, Beatrice seeks a quiet place in which to embrace oblivion.
Life, however, has other plans for Beatrice.
