When you try to act like an adult but get treated like a child, what else can you do but keep your wishes secret and pray that they'll come true?
Twelve-year-old Miguel Chavez wants -- more than anything -- to go up into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to help herd the sheep during the summer. It is the job of the men on the sheep ranch, and Miguel wants to be a part of it. Unfortunately, his father says he is much too young. Miguel makes a wish to the local saint, asking to go up to the mountains in any way he can. Then his older brother Gabriel gets drafted. Now Miguel can take his place. But this is not what he prayed for! Can he take back his selfish wish and make things like they were before?
