Patricia Gaffney received her Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from Marymount College. She also studied literature at George Washington University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Royal Holloway College at the University of London. After graduating from college, she taught high school English for a year. Afterwards, she began a career as a court reporter that she did for 15 years.
Her first novel, a historical romance, was published in 1989. Between 1989 and 1997, she wrote 11 romance novels. The Saving Graces, which was published in 1999, her first hardcover fiction novel, was a different direction for Gaffney. The novel was very successful and was featured on the New York Times, USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She has continued to focus on fiction with Circle of Three, Flight Lessons, The Goodbye Summer and Mad Dash. As of late, Gaffney has been writing novellas, a new creative venture for her. Her latest, "Dear One," was published in The Unquiet in September 2011. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband.
