Yesterday's Secrets — Frances Engle Wilson

Under ordinary circumstances, interior decorator Katia Merrill might welcome a new neighbor. The cottage next door has been vacant since old Doc Tankersly died, and now that the summer season has ended, the town of Cranhaven has a deserted, almost desolate feel to it. But Katia came here to be alone, so when she discovers that Yates Rimyan has bought the Tankersly place, she is less than thrilled.

She can't help but be intrigued, however, by this handsome and secretive man. What brings him to this remote Cape Cod hamlet? “You came here seeking to escape something in your past,” Yates tells her. “I came to find something in mine.” As Katia ponders his cryptic remark, all logic tells her to steer clear of him, at least until she can figure him out.
