The old woman smiled wistfully at Kate. “Wear your lovely red dress, dear,” she said. “It always was my favorite.”

Always? Why would Mrs. Trowbridge say that? She and Kate have known each other only a few weeks. And Kate doesn't even own a red dress.

But when Kate goes to work at the Trowbridge estate for the summer, she finds many things don't make sense. Why does Mrs. Trowbridge call her Mellie? What is the mystery of the little attic room?
