Georgina Latham could scarcely have expected her decision to take in a lodger to so upset the scheme of things in the quiet village of Larksbridge. Indeed, on first acquaintance, Miss Helen Jones had seemed the ideal boarder: quiet, unassuming, possessed by an almost pathological shyness.
