Sandy Rivers and two fellow trail hands were taking a well-deserved rest in the Durant saloon when the injured man staggered to their table - whipped half to death, then knifed in the back. He had come to warn them of something - but died before he could finish what he had to say... The knife and lash-marks appear to implicate their old trail boss Amos Coyne; when he then steals the hands' horses, stranding all three men in Durant, there's nothing for it but to set out and track him down...
