Virtual Realities — William Tedford

Thrown together in a locked school in the middle of the night, a group of students begin to suspect something amiss with their experience. It's not real. In the future era in which they live, they begin to suspect that they are immersed in some kind of virtual reality evaluation or therapy program.

Their plight proves to be far more radical than they imagine. They survive the night only to be contacted by a mysterious school janitor who counseled them the night of their waking nightmare. They are told by a man who should not exist that they experienced a simulated reality, perhaps, but those who create such simulations have no knowledge of the extent or nature of reality in general. The fact is, they touched the lives of those of another world, and fostered a crisis that they alone can resolve.
