After an unhappy love affair " and a lot of scandal that she hadn't deserved " Joanna had fled from her Suffolk home to a veterinary practice in Sussex, to take charge of the small animals department. With a constant, and varied flow of small patients " cats, dogs, monkeys, and even a young tiger! " she began to forget her troubles. Her only problems were some of her colleagues " the difficult, jealous Clare Mayfield, and the even more difficult, Paul Copeland, with whom Joanna seemed to spend most of her time fighting. Paul was so caring about his animal patients. Why was he so heartless where people were concerned?
