Questions with the author
Why did you want to become a writer?
I grew up reading comic books and hated novels. I felt they took too long to read and didn't stimulate my imagination the way comics did. I got into comic books because I loved Batman The Animated Series and the X-Men cartoon from the 1990's. When I was sixteen I found a book by Peter David called "The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast" and that changed everything. It was the first book I bought, paid for with lunch money I squandered.
What is it about science fiction that appeals to you?
There is a certain type of story that can only be seen through the filter of science fiction. The characters can all be the same as the literary counterparts, certain elements in the plot can carry over, but in science fiction there is an underlying thread to the story that appeals to me. It doesn't matter if it's a space adventure like Star Trek, or a dystopian series like the Hunger Games, the thread I recognize is like a heart beat. It makes the story more alive and interesting. That's something I hope I can create with my own stories. I want people to see the thread woven into it as if it were its own character.
What is on your kindle right now?
I've got a lot of stuff on my kindle actually. I've recently downloaded some Batman comic books which is weird to read on a tablet, but it's cool because it's always in mint condition lol. I also have the Silo Saga by Hugh Howey, The Beam by Sean Platt and Johnny B Truant, and some nonfiction book marketing books by Joanna Penn and Nick Stephenson.
If you could recommend any book, other than your own, which would it be?
Man, my favorite book changes a lot since there's so much cool stuff out there. I think today I would suggest Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. The book is pretty good, I still need to see the movie, though. I've been slacking lol.
