Valentine Cordell was truly happy for the first time in her life. Her newly renovated inn was filled to capacity. She had guests who meditated in stuck elevators, guests who created unusual works of art--and even a colony of bats in the backyard. Everything was finally falling into place.

All that was missing was the good opinion of Jackson Dean. But why should that matter? Straight as an arrow, Jackson was not her kind of man. Worse, he was the cop assigned to investigate a series of thefts in the area, and her guests were the prime suspects.

In spite of herself, Valentine was developing a case for Jackson, but he only seemed interested in the developments of the case!
