“Dad!” I yelled. As I sprinted after my brothers and father. “Wait for me.”
The guys stopped and turned to me. My dad put his hands on my shoulders as I approached them, and looked me in my eyes. “Your place is here now,” he told me seriously.
I was shaking my head before he'd even finished talking. “I'm coming with you,” I argued. That was the way it had always been. If there was a problem, me, dad and the boys took care of it together. “We're a team, a pack.”
“You have a new pack now, Winifred. You have responsibilities here. As the future Luna, there are things the Delacroix pack will expect from you. Among them is seeing to that injured wolf that returned this morning.”
“But dad-”
“That's enough, Freddie. Return to your mate, and learn your place since I obviously failed to teach it to you.”
With that, he and the boys vanished into the trees, Carson giving me a sympathetic glance over his shoulder.
I turned away, disheartened, and started back for home. I knew that my dad hadn't meant to be so harsh with me. All of this stuff with Alpha Delacroix had put him on edge. Still, if I wasn't insecure enough about not knowing how to be a Luna, he'd just insured it.
