Treacherous Ties — Jessica N. Lane

Waitress by day and werewolf huntress by night, Mia is perfectly content with her life in the sleepy town of Serenity, Texas. There's only one problem. She can't seem to shake the too hot for words, too dangerous to get involved with Carson Callaway. Throw in an age-old family feud and some crazed vigilantes intent on wiping out the werewolf population for good, and Mia's life is about to get a lot more complicated.

“Why were you wandering around dark alleys without your partner anyway?”



“He was asking questions I didn't want to answer.” It was vague, but close enough to the truth to hopefully get him to stop interrogating me.



“What kinds of questions?”



Apparently not.



“Relationship questions.”



Carson's jaw tightened. “Are you... involved with him?” The way he asked it made it sound like he was threatening Lewis, and my mama-bear instincts instantly came out.



“What's it to you? It's none of your business anyway.”



A dark chuckle filled the space around us, and I was shocked that a sound like that had come from mild-mannered, gentlemanly Carson Callaway.



“Mia, everything about you is my business. Anyway, it doesn't matter if you're involved with him or anyone else. It ends now. I won't share what's mine.”



“Oh, really? I didn't know I belonged to you now.”



“Baby, you've belonged to me since the first day I saw you.”



“Ha! And when were you going to share this information with me?” I refused to back down, especially from a fight with a werewolf.



“I tried doing this the conventional way, Mia. You deserve to be wooed and swept off your feet, but between you cutting me off at the knees every time I attempt to get close to you and Derick's little stunt last night, I can't afford to waste time with preliminaries.”



“How romantic,” I snorted. I was so done with this conversation, but Carson sure wasn't.



“I'll sweep you off your feet after we deal with the bad guys.”



The nerve! Cocky son of a... “I think I'll keep my feet on the ground thank you very much.”



“We'll see about that.”
