Ward Cutler rode southward until he found the town of Shenandoah, where his widowed sister lived. It was a letter from her that had brought him. She had given a man named Henry Gore her savings, but he had responded by striking her. And so Ward had rode out looking for Gore. He found him, but he also found some other people, and came within an ace of finding permanent rest in the cemetery.
