A tragic accident saved Tildie Harris from being sold into an unwanted marriage. But now, whe and her three young cousins are at the mercy of Arapaho Indians.
The Arapaho assume the praying white woman belongs to a big Swede who has preached to their tribe. They send for the missionary Jan Borjesson, who immediately finds himself with a ready-made family. He intends to deliver his charges to the nearest white settlement, but the grocer--growling like an old grizzly--still awaits his promised bride.
The wilderness is no place to leave a woman and children alone, so what would God have Jan do? Can he provide for them through the harsh winter, until he can send them east? And by that time, will he even want to part with the beautiful woman and the heartwarming children?
