Biological weapons have been loosed, devastating the human race. Among the survivors are Leah and Sara Davidson, who must make their way from their home to find a place to rebuild their lives. Searching for a safe place, they travel from Grand Junction, Colorado, to Monterey, California, facing dangers along the way. In Monterey they join Leah's uncle Tim and a group of survivors. They all must now learn to live in a new culture with new challenges. Leah and Sara join the few left in Monterey to find a way to go on in a world that is wholly changed. As they recover, Leah and Sara find the strength to build a new life, overcome unexpected challenges and face their grief. New friends come into their lives, and they grow into strong, capable women.
