College is a time of discovery, when students find out just what sort of people they are. This is especially true for Andy Newly, a freshman who has always been fascinated by all things female. The opportunity to delve into the allure of the feminine world comes while working as a waiter in an upscale restaurant. It begins with a bet made among his fellow student co-workers designed to determine who makes more tips, male or female waiters. Though feigning reluctance, Andy accepts the challenge of becoming the test subject. With the help of his friends, Andy is prepared to take on the role of female waitress. In the course of these activities, he finds himself not only enjoying the experience but embracing it, a fact not lost to his more astute friends. Quickly they conclude that there is something more going on than a simple social experiment as Andy, who uses the name Amanda when assuming a female persona, uses the opportunity he has been given to experience the world as a female. In the process, he comes to question not only his gender identity but his sexuality as well. The story follows Andy as he faces ever-increasing challenges and situations as he deals with his sexual identity. This is complicated when a male college student becomes smitten with Amanda.
