A cynical newsman and a romantic young girl, what did they have in common . . . beside a hopeless love?
Rescue Mission . . .
Millionaire Bill Costainey's yacht was lost in a storm, and overnight the sleep coastal village of Masterson's Crossing became a mecca for would-be rescuers and news-hound reporters. Most of the “outsiders” headed for the hotel run by pretty 19 year old Peta Howard's father.
Among them was Costainey's wife who claimed to have “seen” her husband in a dream stranded on nearby treacherous Thunder Beach. Peta didn't know if she believed in premonitions or not. Certainly Mark Auburn didn't, but then the homely-handsome newsman had little faith in anything, especially women. Still, he agreed to search the beach, a disturbing surprise for Peta, because she must be his guide.
Discovery…
Thunder Beach stretched before them, wild yet somehow beautiful. To rest a little, they stood looking at the rich blue of the sea, the white surf, the flax clumps shining in the sun…
“It's good enough to be painted,” Mark said.
“This place has color even if it hasn't got a heart.” He looked up and down the beach. “Now for the search…”
The gusty wind riffled Mark's unruly hair. Watching him, Peta all at once realized that she loved him. It seemed incredible because of its suddenness, but there it was.
