Just as San Francisco is trying to recover from the destruction from the earthquake that nearly destroyed it two years ago, Elizabeth King is trying to recover from her past regrets. To help right her wrongs, she dedicates herself to helping girls rescued from slavery in Chinatown brothels. Though she risks her life for these girls, she is infinitely more terrified of opening her heart to anyone. Then she meets attorney Charles McKinley, a man who dreams of reforming San Francisco's crooked politics. Can Elizabeth maintain her pretense and hide her past? Or will she find love and faith through the shadows of turmoil?
