Lonely and desperate, Marcus Neill visits a brothel, searching for a taste of what he's denied himself for years. Once there, his shame and scruples prevent him from taking a prostitute, so he turns to drink instead. Too drunk to defend himself, he is beaten, robbed, and left for dead on the street.
A flat overlooking a notorious brothel is not ideal lodgings for a war widow, yet there is nowhere do-gooder Helen Helmsley would rather be. When she finds a wounded stranger outside her door, she knows it's her duty to save him...but nursing the handsome man in her bed might prove more than she bargained for.
Can be read as a stand-alone.
