An old house on Crooked Lake is being demolished when a woman's body is discovered, entombed in the cellar wall. The sheriff is confronted with the challenge of identifying the woman
and learning who among the many occupants of the house might have killed her and buried her in such an unlikely place. The passage of time, the disappearance of former owners, and the
failure of memory make this an investigation that appears to be going nowhere until a new owner has a bad dream.

The plots for the Crooked Lake mysteries almost always take shape in strange ways. This one came to me after a rare dream in which I found myself in a strange place, confronting people I didn't know doing things I couldn't understand. When I woke up the dream wouldn't go away; instead it continued to bother me until it came to me that it just might be the key to the solution of another murder on Crooked Lake. To the best of my knowledge, neither the crime nor the dream have any place in the lake's history, but they do present Carol and Kevin with one of their more interesting cases.
