Amos Burch is the most charitable man in Paradise, Colorado. As owner of the bank, several businesses, and many of the outlying ranches, he's also the richest. Paradise owes Burch its very existence, so when his bookkeeper, Daniel Knott, discovers him in a compromising position with one of his "clients," he accepts his employer's offer of a promotion in exchange for his silence.

And when Burch's wife brings forth a suit for divorce on the basis of adultery, Daniel Knott finds himself in the middle of a scandal that will affect not only his family's future, but the entire town -- and pit him against the most powerful man in Paradise....
