Ever since they were children, Raven Austin and Eric Demming, a talented architect, had gone skating on Mourning Lake in the moonlight. So when Eric returned to his lakeside home after a long absence, it seemed natural for Raven to meet him by the icy expanse for one of their skating jaunts.

As usual, Raven was the first to arrive, eagerly keeping her eyes and ears open for signs of Eric.
