********************************
Young and pretty, Sharon Dekalb has spent years nursing her ailing father. After his death she finds her life at loose ends and decides to leave her hometown for Briton Heights, a lively, expanding community. And luck is with her, for almost at once she lands an intriguing job as confidential secretary to a wealthy woman of seventy, Rosalie Newell, who is something of a recluse. The pay is good, and the surroundings luxurious.
Sharon's new boss, hot-tempered at times, is accustomed to carrying out important business deals from her study, and so is in constant need of Sharon's services as a messenger for important transactions. One errand takes Sharon to the office of Lawrence Haven, Miss Newell's lawyer. He is handsome and single, with beautifully polished manners, and immediately asks Sharon out to dinner -- an invitation which she happily accepts.
Then, by what appears to be blind chance, life catapults another attractive man into Sharon's world -- Wes Barton. He has bumped into her car, and cheerfully promises to pay for the damage he had done. When he takes her name and address, Sharon feels that she will probably never see him again.
But this proves not to be the case -- and soon she has two beaus on her mind.
