The Victorian House — Karen Hutchins Pirnot

Best friends Silky and Sly love adventure and they run smack dab into it when they spend the summer on Smith Mountain, Virginia at the home of Sly's grandparents. When they stumble upon an abandoned Victorian house, their curiosity is peaked and they agree to explore the house. Unbeknown to them, the house is occupied by an abandoned nine year old African-American boy named Pax who has been a highly resourceful little boy since the death of his guardian grandparents. When Pax is discovered, Silky and Sly must decide to protect Pax's need to be independent or opt for safety for the child who has become their friend. An accident decides for them all and their lives will never again be the same.
