Dexter Hadley hired Mark Preston to investigate his wife's behavior, but was murdered before Preston could begin. Hadley's employers then wanted Preston to look into some shenanigans at their tractor plant. A client claimed that a model had been delivered with a number of holes drilled into the bodywork, but when the machine was returned, the holes had disappeared. Soon, Preston found himself facing more tangible problems - like men with guns, and the irascible Rourke of Homicide.
