The Texas Rangers
TEXAS, 1870: THE LAW OF THE GUN

The new land of Texas in the 1870's was full of promise - and full of danger. Marauding bands of Commanches pillaged, raped and murdered. Cattle thieves from both sides of the border ran off ranchers' stock by the thousands, abetted by outlaw gunslingers who'd rather kill than eat.

Against them stood a small force of Texas Rangers, trained to live by the law of the gun. Any decent man who could shoot straight and ride fast could join the Rangers. The pay would hardly buy a sack of beans, but the pride and courage of the Rangers was as big as Texas.

Among those whose lives were deeply involved with the Rangers were the men and women of the Borthwick clan. Amos, the loner, and Ben, the womanizer, joined the Rangers for their own powerful reasons, while David, the dreamer, yearned in vain. Correy, the wild young sister, fell in love with the legendary train robber, Sam Bass - whom her brothers had vowed to track down and kill. Meantime, great danger from within and without menaced the proud Borthwicks, whose destinies were as closely entwined as the strands of a Texas lariat.
