Sweet western novelette.
Noel Carver lost her ma and rode into town on her mule, Marybelle. People gawked at her, but she couldn't help that she had a raggedy dress and coat on. They were all she had. Unsure of what to do, she remebered her ma telling her she could spin a yarn that anyone would believe. That's when she saw a handsome cowboy coming out of the saloon with a saloon gal. The girl kissed him on the cheek and went back inside just as the Marshal stepped up to the cowboy. She prayed she could be as convincing as her ma told her and that the Marshal would help her.
Trey Lightfoot spent the last three weeks at his cabin in the hills to get away from his grandpa and the ranch. Sometimes he just needed a break and time to himself. He stopped at the saloon before returning to the ranch. When he left the saloon and the Marshal walked up to him, he found their conversation interrupted by a woman in a ragged coat and dress. She swore Trey took her innocence and left her stranded. Even though he denied ever setting eyes on the woman, the Marshal locked him up in a cell, and sent for his grandpa. Surely his grandpa wouldn't believe her story.
