The Story of Elise — Lee Stephens

This is the story of how our intrepid hero lost his greatest love after he and his kinsmen suffered defeat by treachery at Battle of Roncevaux Pass. We will never know what transpired in those brutal hours high in the Pyrenees mountains except that men were changed. Men were killed. Most of what happened in this work is speculation upon the authors part. Some is recorded in the Chansons de Geste, which later gained in popularity and eventually fell into use primarily as propaganda. Some is recorded history. The monuments are still there today.
