Anise has made some stupid mistakes in her life, but marrying a man who moved her across the country to his small hometown was the biggest one. He disappeared, leaving her alone to try and run their spice shop while all his old friends and neighbors shun her because they think she killed him. She didn't, but wishes she had. In desperation she hires a drifter to help her out for a couple of days. The man is attractive but clearly has some issues and suffers from PTSD.
