The huge Victorian mansion on the Atlantic was haunted by the specter of a young man who stalked the rooms and corridors and endless dunes outside with a bloody knife in his hand and a mission of vengeance to fulfill.
INTO THE PIT OF HELL
It seemed just a moment ago that Rima was asleep in her great oaken bed, turning in the sheets as if pursued by the fearful dreams haunting her.
It seemed yet another dream when she felt herself being picked up by strong arms, a hand clamped over her mouth as she was carried helplessly struggling out into the moonlit night.
Rima felt those iron-like arms hurl her downward, and she was falling, then smashing into the horrible dampness of sand. She looked up to see the rim of this great sand pit far above, with no hope of reaching it. Then she saw she was not alone.
The sand crabs, hundreds an hundreds of them, were slowly moving toward her like a ravenous sea--and there was no use to scream...
Takes place on Hatteras Island, North Carolina
