The first book in a series involving TA. The Philippines Government claims a decisive and final success against against the insurgents of the New Peoples Army (NPA). TA travels to the Philippines to re-kindle a flame started on a previous visit. He takes his girlfriend to an isolated island tourist resort they had previously visited and reacquaints with locals and resident ex-pats. TA's domestic problems become further compounded when they become become involved in local events they initially think is a drug smuggling operation. It turns out that their resort is only part of a national uprising. TA teams up with a mysterious ex-pat, as they try to rescue as many of the tourists as possible.
