After Eirik the Red was banished from Norway and then Iceland for murders, he colonized Greenland. His son Leif the Lucky went on to build an outpost in Newfoundland. Both of those ventures ended in failure. This historical novel explores why, alternating chapters between the Viking Age and modern excavations of Norse sites in Iceland, Greenland, and America.
