Lovely Sandra Seawell's anticipation for a summer of relaxation with her friend and former college roommate Tressa Wickcliffe was marred by two things: Sandy was uncertain about her future, whether she would be able to spend time in the research she so longed to do or whether she would have to accept a teaching position, and she was unsure of her reception at Chateau Wick, where Tressa and her brother Bevis lived. How would the handsome former movie star react to a summer-long guest?
The house and its lovely grounds, and Tressa's welcome, were all Sandy could have asked for, but Bevis...although he still retained the charm of his moviestar days, his face was marred by a scar and he had a slight limp, constant reminders of a near-fatal car accident that had taken place on the same day his beautiful wife, Dolores, had been killed. The shadow of her murder, unsolved by police, lay heavy on the conscience of all who had dwelled in Chateau Wick.
And now, someone seemed bent on frightening Sandy. Constant reminders of Dolores suddenly appeared--most notably the coinlike branches of the money tree, Dolores's "good luck" charm. Though with a face and figure like Dolores's, she had not need much luck to get her own way, several people ruefully admitted to Sandy.
The secrets of the past slowly revealed themselves to Sandy as she became caught up in the mystery that surrounded the Wickcliffes and more involved with the man of her dreams.
