"You would have preferred to remain in New-gate Prison rather than take me for your wife!" Antonia said scornfully. "The thought of freedom would not have tempted you, nor the chance to squander my fortune as you have squandered your own. Do you expect me to believe that?"
"No, perhaps, not," Geraint said in a wry tone. "I think I would have taken any wav of escape. I did so, in fact, when I agreed with your grand-father's proposal that I should marry vou."
Antonia was strikingly beautiful, full of brooding hatreds, and raised in a sheltered world. Geraint was exceptionally handsome, charming, and something of a rogue. Within an hour of meeting they were married.
