Fannie Johnston, a young 22 year-old cadet on her first march through one of America's small western mining towns in 1880, pulls a young girl from the clutches of a Bisbee, Arizona mining tycoon and accidentally shoots him. She is suddenly propelled to the headlines of the local paper and becomes the center of a newspaper war.
